A Sense of Place: Mind and Body in Community Development
WHEDco President Nancy Biberman was published in the Winter 2009 Issue of Shelterforce Magazine. In her article, "A Sense of Place: Mind and Body in Community Development," Nancy extolls the importance of historical memory and pride of place in economic development in devastated communities like the South Bronx. Shelterforce Magazine is the nation’s oldest continually published housing and community development magazine.

Uptown Girls Benefit
WHEDco President Nancy Biberman was honored by Majora Carter at the first UPTOWN GIRLS BENEFIT! on Wednesday September 16, 2009.
The event celebrated successful and inspiring Bronx “Power Women” including actresses Kerry Washington and Joy Bryant and raised over $30,000 for mural projects that bring positive images of women to the Bronx.

Envisioning the Future of the Red Zone
As a representative of a multi-service non-profit, WHEDco's President, Nancy Biberman, was asked to discuss the demand for our services and housing during the recent financial crisis. Based on both anecdotal and staitstical data gathered by program directors and our research department, Ms. Biberman spoke about the changes in the past couple of years in WHEDco's community.

WHEDco President, Nancy Biberman, spoke on a panel to discuss the affordability of sactive design guidlines as they have been implemented at Intervale Green and Urban Horizons, such as stair use, green roofs, use of courtyards, and WHEDco's food and fitness initiative.

Green and Affordable: Sustainable Strategies for the New Housing Marketplace 2009
Nancy Biberman, WHEDco President, participated in a panel discussion: “Beyond Energy Efficiency: Whole Building Health," part of Green and Affordable: Sustainable Strategies for the New Housing Marketplace 2009- HPD Housing Conference. This day-long symposium brought together more than 200 leading professionals representing a variety of sectors including government, private developers, financial institutions, nonprofit organizations and academia to discuss the new generation of affordable high-performance green buildings. Topics included realistic strategies for financing projects, techniques to promote healthy indoor environments, green maintenance practices, and the role of city government in green affordable building. The conference was organized by the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Click here to go to the conference website.

Nancy Biberman spoke at the New York Women’s Foundation's Corporate Leadership Breakfast on January 22, 2009 which was held in the Times Square Building. Other speakers included NYWF CEO & President of the Foundation, Ana Oliveira, and Reagan Solmo, Lucky Magazine, Managing Editor.

On November 13th, 2008, WHEDco & the Center for Human Environments of the CUNY Graduate Center held "Breaking the Green Ceiling: Affordable Housing Meets Environmentalism" a breakfast forum to discuss how beautiful design and green building can be brought into the low-budget realm of affordable housing.
Nancy Biberman, WHEDco President & Founder, spoke at an all-day continuing education seminar, "Energy Efficiency and Existing Buildings," organized by LandMark West! 2007 Events:
President Nancy Biberman continues to serve as WHEDco’s most vocal spokesperson on affordable and sustainable housing development. In 2007, she was an invited guest speaker at various noteworthy events including:
- The Women in Housing and Finance: Panel of Greening of Existing Buildings on November 19, 2007 in NYC.
- The Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies and Eisenhower Fellowships Present; Strengthening Global Cities: An Urban Leadership Forum on November 15, 2007 in NYC where Nancy participated in a panel discussion entitled “Successful Approaches to Serving a Diverse Urban Population.”
- Rutgers School of Law Alumni Association Annual Recognition Dinner on November 1, 2007 in NJ where Nancy was awarded Fannie Bear Besser Award for Public Service. Read Nancy’s remarks here.
- The annual council meeting of the International Business Leadership Forum (IBLF) in London where Nancy spoke on “Social Entrepreneurship and Global Challenges” and at the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies.
