WHEDCO also continues to bring our work to a national and global audience-where struggles in the Bronx are comparable to under-developed countries. On July 5, 2007 WHEDCo President Nancy Biberman spoke at the Royal Botanical Gardens in London at the Annual Council meeting of the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) on "Social Entrepreneurship and Global Challenges." Ms. Biberman joined 80 leaders from around the world to discuss how partnerships between social entrepreneurs and business can address the myriad of development challenges that face emerging markets and poor communities. Five days later, on July 10th, Ms. Biberman participated in another IBLF event on "Global Leadership for Sustainability" in New York City to talk about WHEDCo's work fighting poverty in the Bronx. The event aimed to underscore an increase in IBLF partnerships in North America and to promote the role of business in tackling global development challenges in the 21st century. The event was co-hosted by Neville Isdell (Chairman and CEO of the Coca-Cola Company and chairman of IBLF), James Wolfensohn (Chairman of IBLF International Advisory Board), Richard Edelman (CEO of Edelman and Chairman of IBLF - North America a 501c3 registered entity), and Sunil Bharti Mittal (Chairman of India's Bharti Enterprises and IBLF chairman for Asia).
Moderated by Robert Friedman, International Editor of Fortune Magazine, the event featured a number of notable leaders in the field including: Jane Nelson (Director of IBLF and Senior Fellow at Harvard University), Alan Hassenfeld (Chairman of Hasbro), Barrry Salzberg (CEO of Deloitte & Touche) and Robert Davies (CEO of IBLF).
