The nation's largest multi-family, Energy Star certified affordable housing development

Intervale Green, located in the Crotona East section of the Bronx, was completed by WHEDco in 2009. It has 128 affordable apartments, 39 of which were set aside for families coming out of New York City’s homeless shelter system.

Intervale Green fulfills WHEDco’s commitment to responsible stewardship of our shared planet through the following green features:

  • 85% efficient boilers and hot water heaters, low flow faucets and showerheads, and highly energy-efficient windows
  • Nontoxic building materials
  • Nearly half an acre of green space, including landscaped street trees
  • Art installations that message conservation

WHEDco promotes holistic, healthy living among residents of Intervale Green through:

  • Workshops on using environmentally-friendly products and minimizing energy and water usage
  • A rooftop urban farm that harvests fresh vegetables
  • Nutrition and cooking clubs
  • Physical fitness activities

Intervale Green won national recognition in 2009 with the Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award.

WHEDco also improves conditions in the neighborhood around Intervale Green through commercial revitalization on Southern Boulevard.
