WHEDCo Sponsors Community Health Event
On Thursday, February 25, 25 participants of WHEDCo’s women’s support group and residents of Urban Horizons braved the inclement weather to hear a wonderful presentation about diabetes awareness and prevention, delivered by healthcare providers from EmblemHealth and Montefiore Medical Center.

WHEDCo social worker Teresa Cano translates a statement by Dr. T.S. Dharmarajan, Montefiore Medical Center.
Art with a Purpose: Mural Painting at Urban Horizons
On Thursday, February 18th, WHEDCo’s Urban Horizons residents and over twenty volunteers from Central Synagogue worked together to complete a stairwell mural, entitled The Bronx is Beautiful, designed by Bronx artist Dennesa Usher, at Urban Horizons.
Urban Horizons tenant, Samira Batchi, and Central Synagogue Human Resources Manager, Jennifer Siegel, work together on WHEDCo's newest mural.
The Bronx is Beautiful is the third mural created in recent months as part of WHEDCo’s efforts to encourage residents of Urban Horizons and Intervale Green to use the stairs to promote fitness and save energy. Walking up 10 flights of stairs burns 50 calories! Read more about WHEDCo’s on-going work to promote healthy living with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene here.
“Because so much of the Bronx was risen from the ashes of destruction, rebuilding institutions and re-weaving social fabric requires a keen ear for equity, and for restoration of memory and a sense of place.”
