Bronx Music Heritage Center Presents

Free Performance by Living Legend and Bronx Music Legend

Gilberto "Pulpo" Colon, Jr.

pulpo1

November 19, 2011, 7pm - 9pm, Gilberto “Pulpo” Colon, Jr. at the Longwood Gallery: Born on December 8, 1953 in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, Mr. Colon was exposed early on to Latin poetry and classical Latin music. The diversity of the Bronx neighborhood in which he was raised played an integral part in the development of his musical appreciation. His parents' strong connection to their roots is what kept Mr. Colon leaning towards Latin music, while his contemporaries were shifting towards music more typical to that generation. Pulpo Colon became a pianist, arranger and musical director at the epicenter of salsa’s Golden Age, recording and performing with some of the biggest bands in the business, including the Big Three: Tito Puente, Tito Rodriquez and Machito.

Please join us to celebrate a Bronx music legend with a free live performance on November 19.
