Position Title: Social Worker (Two Positions Available)
Reports to: Director of Family Support Services

The Family Support Worker will manage a caseload, performing a range of clinical and other services including: individual, family and group counseling, advocacy, resource and referral services to a mixed population. A central focus of this role will be to work directly with students and their families.

Responsibilities:
-In collaboration with PS/MS 218, perform therapeutic services according to protocols designed by the Director.  Work with students and their families who require intervention in the following areas: antisocial behavior, conflict resolution, peer mediation, family conflicts, learning difficulties, substance abuse counseling, domestic violence, crisis intervention, and group work etc. When necessary, make appropriate referrals to outside agencies.
-Develop and maintain linkages within a network of multi-disciplinary human service organizations, Advocacy for Children, Mental Agencies, Child (local) Human Resources Administration, and Office of Employment Services (HRA/OES) for the purposes of information exchange and referrals in the broader community. 
-Plan and implement youth peer support groups and workshops and groups for parents.
-Attend meetings that include but are not limited to: team meetings, case conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, and regularly scheduled supervisory meetings.
-Serve in a mediating role, as necessary, when issues/conflicts arise.
-Participate in in-house and external staff development and training activities.
-Perform other related duties as may be requested by Director.

Qualifications:
MSW or LMSW + 2-3 years experience in clinical services, case management, advocacy, youth services and childcare - preferably in a community setting.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.

Position Title: Project Manager-Community Development
Reports to: Director of Housing and Community Development

WHEDCo’s new housing developments (Intervale Green and Foyer) in the Morrisania/Crotona East neighborhood provide an opportunity for WHEDCo to deepen its roots in the Bronx, and engage in comprehensive neighborhood planning around issues of commercial revitalization and community safety. The Project Manager would lead this collaborative effort, along with other local community-based organizations, to engage existing formal and informal resident and merchant groups in developing a comprehensive community plan to be composed of two inter-related elements – community safety and commercial revitalization along Southern Boulevard.

Responsibilities:
-Coordinate WHEDCo’s efforts to build a collaborative process for addressing safety and crime issues common across the neighborhood serving.
-Serve as liaison to local residents, elected officials, police precinct, business owners, religious organizations, and other community development groups.
-Advocating for the community on public safety issues.
-Develop and implement specific, dynamic plans to resolve identified crime problems.
-Attend appropriate meetings of the Community Board, resident associations, merchants associations, as needed.
-Develop a comprehensive business census database and a directory of real estate brokers active in the area as part of commercial revitalization activities.
-Liaise with commercial real estate brokers, interview local merchants, and survey residents and attend community board meetings to assess neighborhood preferences. The first year’s focus would be to create a neighborhood assessment and work plan, addressing questions about local business growth opportunities, community preferences about retail needs, business attraction, feasibility of merchants’ association(s), etc. Future years’ activities would include implementation of the work plan created in year one, and continuing to advocate for necessary infrastructure improvements.

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration or related fields.
-At least 2 years experience in urban planning, community organizing, advocacy, or economic development, with direct responsibility for completing project tasks
-General knowledge of planning principles and community development in low-income neighborhoods
-Motivated, creative, and resourceful self-starter
-Excellent team-building, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills

Position Title: Quality Assurance and Technical Assistance Specialist
Reports to:     Project Coordinator
Program:         Legally Exempt Childcare Project

Program Description: The New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) has adapted regulations pertaining to legally exempt child care providers that are paid for services with the use of government funds.  Provider eligibility is determined by completed attestations assuring basic health and safety minimal standards; random sampling of home visits, and criminal background checks in addition to Child Abuse and Sex registry checks.

The office of Children and Family Services provides funding for enrollment agencies, such as WHEDCo, that will be responsible for determining the eligibility of childcare providers, who are legally exempt from licensing and/or registration in accordance with current regulations. WHEDCO will work in collaboration with Human Resource Agency (HRA) and Agency for Children Services (ACS) to meet the project’s objective of expediting the enrollment process, focusing on health and safety standards, and increasing overall quality of services provided to children as part of a continuum of care.

In addition, WHEDCo will make available to providers resources such as, referral services for training and, to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide opportunities for legally exempt child care providers to participate in training services, to include: Child Development, Nutrition, Health and Safety, Communication, Discipline, Child Abuse and Neglect, Financial Education, Physical Education, etc.
  • Conduct quarterly orientation sessions for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
  • Provide quarterly orientation sessions on NY State regulated childcare
  • Provide training on ACS payment system
  • Conduct four follow up home visits per month to trainees
  • Review training curricula and diversify as needed
  • Participate in workgroups for legally exempt childcare providers services
  • Document and observe providers skills during home visits focus on providers ability to integrate and practice concepts introduced through training.
  • Conduct needs assessments of caregivers
  • Administer pre/post testing to training attendees for each training segment
  • Administer training evaluations for each training session
  • Work with supervisor for the development of a bi-annual schedule of training services
  • Work with home visit staff on developing technical assistance services and providing additional resources for use in the provider’s homes
  • Enter training participation in  database
  • Develop and Issue training certificates to participants
  • Maintain and follow up on training wait lists
  • Provide staff support/clerical person with information for the timely development of flyers and brochures for outreach
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
The education/experience criteria can be met in several different ways. An AA degree (or higher) in early childhood; and
two or more years working with children in a New York State OCFS licensed or registered child care setting; and
two or more years of experience working with adults as a trainer or providing technical assistance to child care providers
or
a BA degree (or higher); and
two or more years working with children in a New York State OCFS licensed or registered child care setting
or
a BA degree (or higher); and
two or more years of experience working with adults as a trainer or providing technical assistance to child care providers
or
five or more years working with children in a New York State OCFS licensed or registered child care setting; and
four or more years of experience working with adults as a trainer or providing technical assistance to child care providers
or
other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered if equivalent to the criteria above.

Bilingual is preferred, Computer skills a must, detail oriented, excellent verbal and
written communication skills required.

Responsibilities:         

  • Research, cultivate, and solicit grants from foundations, corporations and government agencies
  • Maintain direct contact with program officers and foundation staff
  • Work with WHEDCo program directors and staff in the development of proposals and reporting
  • Develop a sustainable plan that secures sufficient funds to support WHEDCo’s programs.
